A DXF viewer for drawings and patterns

You do not need to install a CAD application to view DXF online. Open the tool above, choose a file or drop it into the viewer. The free DELIM DXF Viewer runs in your browser and helps check geometry, layer visibility and distances before sharing a drawing with a colleague or preparing material.

Use it to inspect part outlines, patterns, cutting layouts and other 2D DXF drawings. It is a viewing tool, not a complete CAD editor or a check that a design is ready for cutting.

How to open and view a DXF

  1. Click “Open DXF / DWG Viewer”, then “Choose DXF / DWG”. You can also drop a file into the viewer.
  2. Click “Fit drawing” to see all available geometry. Zoom into individual areas with the mouse wheel or zoom buttons.
  3. Open “Layers” and keep the outlines you need visible. Layer names come from your file.
  4. Choose “Measure distance” and pick two points. Zoom into the area first for more precise point selection.
  5. Click “End action” to return to viewing. On a phone, use two fingers to zoom and one finger to pan.

“Open example” loads a demonstration drawing: a 100 × 50 mm rectangle, a circle, an arc and text on separate layers. It is not a production pattern.

Check drawing units before using dimensions

A DXF may use millimetres, inches or other units. If the author has not specified units or scale, a measurement value cannot automatically be treated as millimetres. Compare a known length with the source drawing and check scale in your CAD application.

For patterns, separately check closed contours, seam allowances, material direction and mirrored parts. The viewer does not add allowances, calculate shrinkage or create machine toolpaths. Choose material in the DELIM catalogue or contact a manager to discuss your design.

Formats, privacy and viewing limits

ASCII and binary DXF and DWG through LibreDWG are supported. Maximum file size is 20 MiB for DXF and 5 MiB for DWG; ASCII DXF has an additional limit of 100,000 records. A modern browser with WebGL is required. Large drawings can be slower on a low-powered phone.

Your file is read and displayed on your device. It is not sent to the DELIM server or an external CAD service. Analytics records tool openings and button actions without filenames, coordinates or drawing geometry.

Unavailable fonts are substituted with Onest, so lettering appearance and widths may differ. External raster references are not loaded. Unsupported custom CAD objects may not appear: check viewer notifications and the original file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open DWG?

Yes. DWG opens for free through LibreDWG in your browser, without sending drawings to a server. Maximum size is 5 MiB. Support depends on the DWG version and object types: custom CAD objects may not appear. Export large or incompatible files to DXF in the source CAD application. DWG needs more memory; we recommend a computer with sufficient RAM.

Can I edit and save a drawing?

This service is for viewing, switching layers and measuring. Edit geometry and save modified DXF files in a CAD editor; your original file is not changed here.

To arrange prepared outlines on material, use SVG/DXF pattern nesting. If your outline starts as a raster image, try the PNG/JPG to SVG converter. After tracing, check accuracy and scale before importing the result into nesting.
