What the PNG/JPG to SVG converter does

PNG, JPG, WebP and BMP store images as pixels. Vectorization, or tracing, finds region boundaries and turns them into SVG vector paths. You can scale and edit them in a vector editor. The DELIM tool uses the open-source Trazor engine under the MIT license.

Start with a high-contrast logo, silhouette or line drawing. Photographs become stylized artwork: tracing does not recover lost detail, text does not become editable text, and a scan does not become a precise CAD pattern.

How to convert an image to SVG

  1. Open the converter and choose one PNG, JPEG, WebP or BMP file.
  2. Choose a profile that matches the artwork and intended use.
  3. For color artwork, set the maximum number of colors. Enable background removal if needed.
  4. If you know the required physical artwork width, enter it in millimetres. Otherwise SVG uses pixels; set the production scale separately.
  5. Click “Convert to SVG” and compare the original with the result. Inspect holes, letters, corners and small features.
  6. Download SVG and check it in your editor or equipment software. You can stop processing with the Stop button.

Which profile to choose

  • Logo: flat artwork with a small color palette.
  • Color illustration: multi-color artwork with smooth paths.
  • Vinyl: color layers for subsequent cutting preparation. Check overlaps and small details.
  • Laser engraving: black-and-white filled engraving areas. Set cutting lines and machine parameters separately in your equipment software.
  • Pen plotter: stroke centerlines rather than edge outlines; best for line drawings.
  • Stencil: single-color paths with enclosed-island warnings. Add bridges manually.

Formats, accuracy and limits

One static image up to 20 MiB, 40 megapixels and 10,000 pixels on either side. The longest side is reduced to 1200 pixels for processing, which may remove small details. Animated WebP, PDF, GIF and SVG input are not supported. The output is SVG vector paths, without the original raster embedded.

Profiles are starting settings, not confirmation of compatibility with a particular machine. Before fabrication, check closed paths, holes, scale, feature thickness, material suitability and your production process. The converter does not add seam allowances or generate machine toolpaths.

Are files sent to a server?

No. Decoding and tracing happen on your device, with the calculation in a separate browser thread. The site may record tool openings and button actions in analytics; images, filenames and paths are not added to those events.

Next step: inspect paths and nest patterns

For closed paths, try online pattern nesting. First edit your SVG: separate parts, set the scale, remove unwanted layers and include any required allowances. Tracing artwork alone does not prepare a production cutting pattern.
